I feel most at home in the forests. This is why I keep on thinking, talking and writing about them. And have focused on research and development in forests and ecology for 40 years. Often in multi-disciplinary teams, which is very fruitful for getting new ideas and insights.

In short, I have a background as a researcher and a teacher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, at Umeå University, at the University of Québec in Montréal, Canada, as the Director of the Swedish Institute for Ecological Sustainability, and as the Chief Executive of Mistra, the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research in Stockholm. I have also served as a scientific editor for many years, organized several scientific meetings, and also been on a number of committees and boards of directors.

I work as a writer, lecturer, moderator and consultant.
